The transcript is the most prominent component of the Transcript Editor. Click into any active text area to add/edit/remove parts of the transcript.
To the right of the project name is the option of searching the transcript. Clicking into the search filed immediately opens the Find/Replace field.
At the top right of the transcript field are the font size functions.
The Scrub Bar is located directly above the Nav Controls. Clicking into any point along the scrub bar will take you to that point in the video.
There are controls for volume and playback speed, as well as options to turn on a confidence layer and audio cue highlights. To the right of the time code you can zoom in and out of the spectrogram as well as the ability to display timing anchors and show or hide your video.
While editing your captions, SyncWords' continuous auto-timing feature will resync your captions with your media in the background, ensuring your project is always in sync.
The confidence layer is the system telling you how confident it is that the text in the script matches what is being spoken. This option is best used when uploading your own transcript. Words can be missed or extraneous text can be added. Turning on the confidence layer allows you easily identify problematic areas of the transcript so you can jump to that spot and easily correct it.
Make sure you turn on the Confidence Layers before you start working.
- Confidence layers show areas where the media-text sync may not be accurate.
- Confidence ColorsNo color: Highest confidence LevelGreen highlight: HighYellow highlight: MediumRed highlight: Low confidence. It could also mean missing or incorrect text in the transcript.
By default, the video is ON. Toggle video ON/OFF on the right of the player.
SyncWords automatically identifies speaker labels using various conventions. Manage and assign labels efficiently in the Transcript Editor.
Speaker labels are an important part of transcripts. Transcript Editor allows you to manage them with a few clicks. By default, every paragraph break in your transcript will have an area where you can add a speaker label. To add a speaker label click “Add speaker” and choose from an existing list of identified speakers or add a new one.
You can also click the Speakers tab on the left side of the page to open up the drawer of available speakers. Add as many speakers as you wish and then click in the transcript to apply them. Editing a speaker on the left side of the page will change every existing instance of that speaker in the transcript to the new value.
Timing Anchors
By default, SyncWords places cues between the end time of the word preceding it and the start time of the word following it. It’s not an exact science and the time the cue stays on screen may need to be adjusted. Use the Transcript Editor to adjust the timing by using the start and end anchor options.
Play your video and pause when you reach the start of the sound cue. Hold the CTRL button (or CMD for macs) and click the sound cue in the transcript. This selects the cue without moving the timeline. Once that is done click the Start Time button. You have now told the system that the sound cue starts at that specific time. You can do the same for any cue or word in the transcript and add start or end anchors accordingly. You can either place a start anchor or end anchor to either sync the start or end of a word or sentence.
Another way to adjust timing is via the timeline spectrogram. You may have noticed that every word you click in the editor displays the timing of the word on the timeline at the bottom of the screen. It has both the start and end time as markers that can be adjusted manually. Any changes you make will trigger our advanced automatic retime engine for that text edit.
Tone and Sound Cues
Identify non-speech audio as sound cues and optionally edit their start and end times.
Tone and sound cues signify sounds in the transcript that are important information for the viewer, but are not actually spoken by anyone. Things like laughter, applause and phone ringing are just some examples of cues. To let the Transcript Editor know that something in the transcript is a cue and not actually spoken, click the Timing & Cues tab to open up the drawer, select the word you want to designate as a cue and click the corresponding sound or tone cue button.
Shows a visual representation of sound variations in the audio. It simplifies the process of identifying the exact moment that a sound begins and makes it easy to discern human voices from background noise.
Check for Green Check sign after edit is made. If the Green Check sign does not show for a while, refresh the page.
